Reps Hamzy, Noujaim, Sen. Cappiello, Other Officials to Host Americares Lebanese Relief Fundraiser

State Representatives William A. Hamzy R-78th District, Selim G. Noujaim, R-74th District, state Senator David J. Cappiello, R-24th District and several local officials of Lebanese ancestry will host a fundraiser to help support humanitarian relief for Lebanese citizens and families who have been injured or left homeless as a result of the recent hostilities in Lebanon.

The event, which will feature nationally recognized pollster John Zogby, an expert on the Middle East as well as American politics, is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th, at 5:00 p.m., at the Lebanese American Club at 22 West Street in Danbury.

“Although the cease-fire in Lebanon has been in effect for almost a month now, the country is just beginning to recover and the people who live in areas that were especially hard-hit by the fighting are still desperately in need of assistance,” Representative Hamzy said. “The money that will be raised at Sunday’s event will be distributed by AmeriCares, a widely respected international relief organization, which will see to it that the assistance goes to families that are most in need of help. The people of Connecticut have always been generous when it comes to supporting relief efforts during emergencies and disasters. I urge everyone to get behind this cause as well.”

“This should be a very interesting event for a very good cause,” said Sen. Cappiello.  “John Zogby is one the most recognizable names in polling.  With the state and national elections in high gear coupled with events currently happening around the world, particularly in Middle East, I think we’re very fortunate to have someone with his expertise to join us at this fundraiser.”

Also involved in organizing the fundraiser are Waterbury Mayor Michael J. Jarjura, Danbury; City Councilman Thomas Saadi; Ehden Lebanese American Club (Wolcott) President Michael Macary, and Lebanon American Club (Danbury) President Joe Walkovich.

The event is being held in conjunction with AmeriCares, a Stamford-based international relief organization that immediately responds to emergency medical needs and long-term humanitarian assistance programs for people around the world.
