Reappointed to Commerce, Higher Education &
Employment Advancement Panels; Joins Transportation Committee
State
Representative Selim G. Noujaim, R-74th District, has been
reappointed to the General Assembly’s Commerce and Higher Education &
Employment Advancement committees for the 2007 – 2008 legislative sessions. He
also was appointed to the Transportation Committee., House Republican Leader
Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-142nd District, announced today.
“Representative
Noujaim, who serves as one of my assistant leaders, has played a major role in
enacting legislation that has encouraged economic growth and job creation as
the House Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the Commerce Committee and as a
member of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee for the
past four years,” Representative Cafero said. “Selim is committed to making our
state more business-friendly to attract new companies to Connecticut and to
provide secure, well-paid jobs for our citizens. As a business person, Selim
has an intimate understanding of the challenges facing employers in the Greater
Waterbury area and throughout Connecticut. I look forward to working closely
with Selim over the next two years to provide a better economic future for the
people of Connecticut.”
“As
a member of the Commerce Committee, I will continue working to enact legislation
that encourages Connecticut companies to expand their operations here and
provides new incentives for out-of-state firms to move to our state,”
Representative Noujaim said. “One of the problems employers frequently cited in
a recent CBIA poll was finding qualified people to work for them. As a member
of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, one of my top
priorities for 2007 and 2008 will be working with our state’s business
community and with our public universities and colleges to make sure students
are given the opportunity to acquire the skills Connecticut companies are
looking for.”
“Most
of those who responded to the CBIA poll also said improving the state’s
transportation infrastructure is essential to maintaining and strengthening a
healthy business climate,” Representative Noujaim said. “I concur with that
assessment and I will be working to keep Connecticut’s ambitious transportation
infrastructure improvement program on track as a member of the Transportation
Committee. A transportation system that includes up-to-date air, rail and port
facilities as well as a highway system capable of meeting the needs of Connecticut’s citizens and employers for the rest of the century must be one of our state’s
top priorities for years to come.”
