Rep. Noujaim to Present Citation to Man Who Donated $1,000 Prize to Waterbury Unit Serving in Iraq

Michael Rinaldi Donated Elks Lodge Prize to 143rd Combat Support Sustaining Battalion Family Fund

State Representative Selim G. Noujaim, R-74th District, Tuesday will present a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly to Michael Rinaldi, a member of the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee, honoring him for donating a $1,000 prize he won at a Waterbury Elks Lodge dinner in January to the Waterbury-based 143rd Combat Support Sustaining Battalion Family Fund.

The unit is currently serving in Iraq.

Lieutenant Governor Michael C. Fedele also will be participating in the event, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Waterbury Elks Lodge No. 265, at 283 West Main Street, Waterbury.

The citation to be presented to Mr. Rinaldi honors him for his “steadfast devotion to veteran affairs and to our troops, most recently witnessed in your generous donation of your Elks Lodge prize winnings to the Friends of the 143rd Combat Support Sustaining Battalion Family Fund.”

“It is an honor to applaud your exceptional and longstanding personal, financial and moral contributions to the men and women of our armed forces,” the citation states.

The event also will include the presentation of a symbolic check in the amount of $1,000, which will be presented to the Friends of the 143rd Combat Support Sustaining Battalion Family Fund. The actual check will be presented by Michelle Minicucci and Mr. Rinaldi to Allisan Adams of Cheshire, wife of Colonel William Adams, the commander of the 143rd Combat Support Sustaining Battalion, who is currently in Iraq with the unit.

The 143rd CSSB, home based at the Field Street Armory in Waterbury, was deployed to Iraq last summer.

Mr. Rinaldi, who won the prize at a dinner held in January at the Waterbury Elks Lodge, decided to donate it to the unit for the purchase of items for the 143rd C. S. S. B. troops serving in Iraq.

The citation was sponsored by Representative Noujaim and state representatives Anthony J. D’Amelio, R-71st District, Larry Butler, D-72nd District, Jeffrey J. Berger, D-73rd District, David Aldarondo, D-75th District, and state senators Joan V. Hartley, D-15th District and Sam S. F. Caligiuri, R-16th District.
