Rep. Noujaim
to Moderate Meeting; Developer Representatives; EPA Officials Will Field Questions
Residents
who live near the Calabrese Parcel of the former Scoville industrial
landfill superfund site on Store Avenue are invited to a community meeting next
week that will focus on the potential redevelopment of the seven-acre parcel in
the city’s East End, state Representative Selim Noujaim said today.
The meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, April 26th at 7 p.m. at the WARC gymnasium, 1929 East Main Street, said Representative Noujaim, R-Waterbury, who will be the moderator.
Federal Environmental Protection
Agency officials, Scoville Redevelopment Investors, LLC principals David
Schlansky and Pedro Zevallos, Waterbury members of the Connecticut Task Force
on Brownfields Strategies, Aldermen Cicero Booker, Dennis Odle and Paul Pernerewski,
and a representative from Mayor Jarjura’s office also will participate.
The agenda for the meeting
includes a discussion of the status of the property; the brownfields task
force’s role in the cleanup and reuse of the parcel, and the process for its
potential redevelopment, Representative Noujaim said.
“Scoville Redevelopment
Investors, who are interested in remediating and redeveloping the property,
recently contacted Alderman Odle about setting up a meeting with residents who
live in the area to find out what they would like to see done with it. This
parcel has been vacant for years. If it is cleaned up and developed, it will
eliminate a potential threat to public health, put the property back on the
city’s tax rolls and help create new jobs,” Representative Noujaim said. “I’d
like to urge everyone who lives near the former Scoville landfill to attend
this meeting.”
